It’s not news anymore that generative AI has taken the world by storm. Many view the rise of generative AI as a threat to their livelihoods, as many non-trivial tasks that were previously only doable by humans, are now automatable like never before. This is creating massive disruptions across a variety of industries and redefining occupational roles in many knowledge sectors. Technology can be perceived to render the work of humans redundant, but it can also be just as empowering. We have always innovated to build machines that offload repetitive, patterned work from us. The human’s distinct role is that they identify the exceptions, cut through the noise and see through the lies.
As the pioneers of the future, we must always innovate to adapt to current trends, and learn to identify where opportunities lie in the face of technological disruption. We need to continue to tackle challenges that require constant dialogue, empathy, and committing to the social good. This is a reminder to us that as humans, we have the advantage of being capable of adapting to change, and human problems will still ultimately have to be solved by humans.
This year, our DECODE Innovation Conference is themed: 'Unlocking Our Human Advantage'. We touch upon how the latest developments in technology are yet again giving us the opportunity, and perhaps urgency to unlock our human advantage. How do we deal with the economic, social, security and humanitarian risks involved with the stratospheric adoption of a game-changing technology?
